Sarah Gailey has done it again. Just goddamn gave me everything that I've ever wanted out of a book, and done it while all the characters are riding hippos. You heard me. They're riding hippos. In the Mississippi river. Hippos on the Mississippi, both being ridden by people, and running feral and killing and eating everything that moves. And along with the hippos come non-binary characters that fall in love and get to live happily ever after, characters that are lauded for looking amazing while cross-dressing, women that are competent and get shit done, and men who make decisions based on their emotions and aren't afraid to cop to it later. It's a beautiful story, and I love it just as dearly as I loved the first book in this series.
I don't know what else I can say about this book that I haven't already said about book one in the series, so I'll just leave you with this: If you haven't read River or Teeth, what are you even doing with your life? And once you've gone off and read that one, I doubt you'll have to be persuaded to read this one. But if you doubt, just let me tell you: it's worth it.
